Authors: Jim Nickolaou, Controls and Software Lead Tech Engineer - Active Safety & Autonomous Driving, General Motors Corp.

Abstract: Today’s technology is capable of delivering more than it actually does. This discussion will focus on what the industry can learn from intelligent cars being developed, such as those in the DARPA Urban Grand Challenge (UGC), and the evolution in capability that is needed by the automotive industry.
As an active participant in the General Motors and Carnegie Mellon team, I will briefly highlight GM’s active safety path and UGC complexity of autonomous “crash less” driving. I’ll also present GM’s vision for developing on-board electronics for active safety in today’s challenging industry.
